SOME BIASES

- Some are critiqued in more detail later on (the pictures we thought were kinda cool...they really have no relevance!)

We have the bias that since we search the Internet for information for different things, we could also use the Internet to find information on Rachel Wyatt.

Today in our busy world filled with fast computers and a World Wide Web we assume many things about people using these technologies. We have the bias that since we use the Internet that also so many other people use the Internet too. We assumed that we could find any information we needed on Rachel Wyatt on the Internet. But sometimes this is not the case. Some people are still not up to date with such technologies. They either can not afford a computer, or do not know how to use one. Some do not trust computers because it is just a machine, or simply people have not really bothered to put information on this author; so therefore there is nothing on the Internet about this person. We had a very hard time finding any information on Rachel Wyatt and when we did there was nothing of use to us.

We have the bias that since we are Canadians then we can find anything about Canadians on the Internet.

This is not the case since Americans create most of the Internet search engines and web pages. So there is a significant amount of information about American related information, which is of use to Americans. The point of view is from an American point of view, not a Canadian one. Canada is always pumped with American culture and media. This is because of our economic and physical relation to each other. We have open free trade agreements and we physically share a continent together, we are considered neighbors, so we act neighborly. Another cause of this Americanization of Canada is the fact that we have a smaller populated nation we are influenced more by the American culture that out numbers us. We know a great deal about America but yet Americans do not know anything about Canadians. When we searched the net we had to look for Canadian search engines and Canadian web sites such as Yahoo Canada and Canoe. Even then we still could not find any information on this author.

We have the bias that since someone is an author then there are a lot of books written by him/her.

When we speak of an author we usually mean a person that writes or has composed some form of literary work. I my self would not consider someone an author if they only wrote one book. They would have to have written at least five or more works. Basically they have to be prolific writers. This is the case with Rachel Wyatt. She has compounded just a few plays. So does that not make her a real author?

Authors are any people who write books. So it really does not matter how many books some one has written or published to be considered an author. But in the present society we tend to think of authors as people who have written a great deal and have had all their works published for everyone to read. This is due to the big names in books like Stephen King, Danielle Steel, etc.
