QUESTIONS
REQUIRED QUESTIONS
Where did we go?
- We met at the McKimmle Libraryat the link on the second level. We used
CLAVIS and searched the word "short plays". We got a bunch of plays and they
on the 10th floor. We circled around the 10th floor
looking for a playwright that would be interesting to do. We also spent an
hour and a half on the Internet looking for Rachel Wyatt but didnt find anything
significant.
Whom did you talk to or confer with?
- We talked to people at the library information center and they helped us
find more information and where to go. We couldnt find any good web sites
about Rachel Wyatt.
How long did your journeys take?
- The library and Internet stuff took three hours. Our critique was ongoing
for 3 weeks emailing, meeting, e-mailing, etc. The web page is taking
foreverif you have never done one!!!
What surprises were there?
- on another part of the webpage
What was predictable about library work?
- there was a lot of information in the library
- more than you will ever needor care to know
- that librarians were so friendly and helpful
- didnt get through all the info
- some really boring books
- readingreading.
Recommendations to future 237 students.
- Dont do a webpage unless you know how already!!!
- Get different web page programssome have there advantages and disadvantages
to every one of them
- Fortune City gives you 20 MB for a web page & it is pretty easy use
- The internet is not a good place to look for information on Canadian
writers
In the end what was worthwhile or useful about the process?
- The stuff that was useful about this project was it familiarizes you with
the library and all the different kind of stuff you can find. It can probably
help you on other subjects because after a while the library is a very useful
placeif you know how to use it.
Do you find a particular bias or biases in information you have found? (Be
selective)
- on another part of the web page
Did you expect to find more or less information, different kinds of
information? Why or why not might this library, and libraries as institutions,
have the information or access to it that you need?
- Since 2 heads are better then one...we thought we would find a lot more
information
- There is so much information in libraries, including encyclopedias,
articles, internet, books, magazines etc. for sure we thought we would find
more stuff
- Since we were doing a Canadian playwright for sure we thought lot of
information would be foundsadly no!
- Because plays arent really in great demand at certain locations.
- Not as famous as Shakespeare, Author Miller etc.
- More demand for American playwrights.
*** Just some critique (dont know where else to put it)
The dominate culture does promote individuality and dependence to a certain
extent, however as you have seen in some of the other responses, working as
a collective is seen as being far more effective. In this culture we are constantly
bombarded the phrase two head are better than better than one, people belong
to feel working in groups is a more efficient way of getting work accomplished.
This group work is taught from a young age in schools, by assigning work that
must be done in a group. This is probable a strategy to prepare children for
wok Most jobs offered by society needs you to work in a group or team ie. Doctors
have nurses, teachers and students.
What does this tell you about the dominant culture?
- in another part of the web page
What would you do differently next time?
- We probably wouldnt have done a web page because it is so %@^$#@@
hard!
- We probably would have started this way, way, way earlier!!!
What do you think you may have overlooked?
- We might have overlooked the Canadian stuffthere really must be some stuff
on Rachel Wyatt on the Iinternet
- We definitely overlook how much work there is to make a damn web pagewe
are so, so regretting it now!!!
ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS:
ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT WORKING WITH THIS GROUP?
- New people, thus first impression should be good.
ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT HOW THIS PROJECT WOULD DIFFER FROM THE ONE BEFORE.
- Title specifies the fact that this is a research project so it will be a
lot about looking up info
- Tittle also calls it a critique, so we will have to unpack a lot of
information etc.
HOW THE TIME RESTRICTION WOULD EFFECT THE GROUPS DIVISION OF WORK.
- Sometimes you dont have the time to look at everything you want.
- You are hurried to find an author because if you dont you will loose time
to reaseach
- You might be stuck with a topic that you dont want to dobut have to
because you are strapped for time & the 3 hours are almost
over.
WHAT (IF ANYTHING) DID YOU LEARN ABOUT TIME AND ITS IMPORTANCE DURING THIS
ASSIGNMENT.
- Time flies when you are doing something you enjoy.
- Time is slow when you are doing something boring.
- When doing the Chem. 203 examthere obviously wasnt enough time to do
it.
- You work harder when you have a certain time period to do somethingor
when something is due by 5:00 p.m. on April 26.
SINCE WE HAVE BEEN IN ARUNAS CLASS FOR A WHOLE SEMESTER WHAT EXPECTATIONS DO
THINK SHE HAS ABOUT HOW THIS ASSIGNMENT IS SUPPOSED TO BE.
- 4 words.critiquecritiquemore critique
WHAT DID YOU FIND TO BE THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF THIS ASSIGNMENT? WHY?
- The web pagebecause no one in our group is a computer whiz.by any
standards.
- But it was educationalmaybe this knowledge will apply later on in
life.
WHAT WAS THE EASIEST PART OF THE ASSIGNMENT? WHY?
- Definitely the library work. This is because there is nothing harder than
making a ^%^##$#!@ web page if you dont know how! Critique is pretty hard
stillunless you are a critiquing machine, which obviously none of us are.
WHAT DID THIS ASSIGNMENT TEACH YOU? DO YOU THINK THIS OPINION COULD BE USED
TO GENERALIZE OTHERS YOUR AGE.
- This assignment taught us that technology is not always that easy to
use.
- Some web page makers are easier to use than others
- Web pages can be really frustrating...especially when you can't get pictures,
sounds, etc. to work
- Finding what you want on the Internet HARD!
- We think that this could be used to generalize not only our age groupbut
everyone!
